Resources to prepare yourself and your community for the 2020 Census
On March 12, the U.S. Census Bureau's online portal and telephone numbers open up - and Washington residents can begin to respond to the Census. The goal is to maximize self-response across the state through the end of April even though the portal and telephone lines will be open until July 31, 2020.
Across the state, communities have adopted the tagline (or a version of it) that says: it takes 10 minutes to answer 10 questions that will affect investments in your community for the next 10 years. The tagline sums it all up - it is quick, easy and important to the things that matter to you and your community.
Please help us spread the word with all of the resources that we have produced or gathered together on the WA Counts 2020 website, including:
1) A wealth of promotional materials - posters, brochures, flyers, mailer inserts, window decals, pens - in up to 50 languages that are available for downloading and ordering here.
2) A 15-minute training video about the 2020 Census basics. Encourage your employees to watch the video, post it on your website and send it to those on your distribution lists.
3) Several different English and Spanish on-hold phone messages, which are generic enough to be used by any organization to encourage census participation.
4) The WA Counts 2020 logo that can be appended to emails or websites to demonstrate support for a complete count in Washington state.
5) Two social media banners to be included in emails, on websites or with social media messages:
a) Version 1: You Count, Be Counted!
b) Version 2: 10 minutes, 10 questions, 10 years
6) Links to great 2020 Census toolkits from local and national groups that can help customize messages to target specific groups.
7) Links to informational factsheets on some of the topics that people often ask about.
i. Additional information for administrators of these facilities
i. Map of Mail Contact Strategies (indicating households to receive a bilingual mailing and a paper copy in the first mailing)
