Greetings Washington Financial Education Network (WFEN) Friends!
Happy Fall, Everyone! How are we already getting ready for Fall and Winter holidays?!
A reminder that we at DFI are still providing financial education outreach - virtually - via Teams or Zoom. We have presentations on most every financial topic - budgeting, saving, credit, ID theft prevention, financial fraud prevention, retirement planning and more - for every age group (pre-K through retirement). If you're interested in a presentation to your group, please fill out a request form .
Also, be sure to check out DFI's financial education resources online.
As usual, there is a LOT going on in our state focused on financial education. Here are a few of the highlights:
Get the word out - families need to sign up by Monday, Nov. 15 for Child Tax Credit!
Families of over 60 million children are already receiving the Child Tax Credit - $3,600 annually for children under 6 and $3,000 for kids between 6 and 17 – but families who haven’t signed up and earn too little to have to file taxes are missing out. These families must sign up by Nov. 15 to get payments this year. Between now and November 15, families can go to GetCTC.org, an easy to use tool to sign-up for the Child Tax Credit for families who aren’t required to file taxes. This tool, created by Code for America, in collaboration with the White House and Treasury, is in English and Spanish and is mobile friendly, and most families can complete it within about 15 minutes. But families need to know about the tool if they’re going to use it. That’s why, we’re asking all of our government stakeholders to go all-out in their efforts to enroll non-filers over these critical next two weeks. Successful enrollment efforts often require a good “first-mile” and “last-mile” strategy. For some families, getting to the non-filer tool at GetCTC.gov may be all they need to sign up; for others, in-person assistance can be critical.
