2 ways YOU can impact Latinos in state govt

Learn two ways you can make a difference for Latino workers in state government:

#1-Share your workplace experiences

As a Washington State business resource group the Latino Leadership Network (LLN) is working with state agencies to help the state be an employer of choice and be equitable to all employees. To achieve our goals, LLN is launching its first survey on workplace experiences of Latino/Hispanic state employees. Your participation will help us get a clearer picture of inclusion and professional development in state government and build data that will allow us to promote meaningful opportunities.

Currently, Latinos represent 13 percent of the state working age population yet they represent less than six percent of the state employee workforce. Closing this representation gap can help agencies make progress on diverse recruitment goals.

The survey takes about five minutes, is open to all state employees, and closes on Thursday, December, 24.

#2-Get involved in LLN

Your LLN Executive Board is looking for people interested in moving the needle on our mission to connect and inspire the Latino workforce in state government. We are putting together an ambitious slate of activities for 2021 that will include professional development, networking, wellness, and more.

We need your ideas and your energy to be successful. Participation in a business resource group is allowed on state time with supervisor’s approval.

Who is the Latino tapped to lead Homeland Security under Biden?

President-elect Joe Biden has selected Alejandro Mayorkas to lead the Department of Homeland Security. The first Latino ever appointed to the post, Mayorkas will oversee immigration policy and border security. And media reports say Biden will name Xavier Becerra to lead Health & Human Services under his administration.
