Community Development Officers

Connecting, Growing Relationships, Listening

About the team

The Community Development Team is embedded and connected in the regions that we serve. We center relationship-building and trust. The CDOs are building connections with program staff, community-based organizations, elected officials, faith-based and informal community leaders, as well as fellow colleagues at all the state agencies.

This team will

  • Conduct statewide Community Connection Sessions that will inform our name change, provide recommendations for data gathering, inform our work plan for Census 2030 and capacity building prep for the redistricting process.

  • Conduct a community assessment in each county by identifying all Latine serving organizations within each county to create a catalogue of services, document languages spoken;, countries of origin, and other pertinent information. This information will inform several tools that will be created and used to guide the agency’s work.

  • Conduct outreach and share messaging from the state enterprise to the Latine/Hispanic community. Cultivate trusting relationships with NGOs, community leaders, and the community at large.

Strategic Framework

This team helps us increase equal opportunity for Washington's residents by improving the well-being of the Latine/Hispanic community. This request aligns with the following Governor strategic priorities:

  • Goal 2: Prosperous economy: Fostering an innovative economy where businesses, workers, and communities thrive in every corner of our state.

This team will allow the Commission to holistically identify and articulate the gaps and barriers that exist within each community. From this information, we’ll be able to create recommended actions the state can take to build capacity within each community to achieve a state of thriving for our communities across the state.

  • Goal 5: Efficient, effective, and accountable Government: Fostering a Lean culture that drives accountability and results for the people of Washington.

This team gather information which will allow for the state to understand how to maximize its resources in order to meet the needs of Latine/Hispanics across the state.

This team meets the following strategic priorities:

  • Strategic Priority 1: Redistricting and Census 2030.

    • It is the intent of the Commission to take a holistic approach to understanding the needs of the Latine/Hispanic community across the state. Because each pocket of community is unique, we need to understand what barriers exist in each and every community in order for the Commission to make recommendations that will help develop closer relationships, cultivate trust, and ensure that the state is meeting the needs of this very diverse community.
